College is supposed to be the best four years of your life, right? During my freshman year, I struggled to see that. Being surrounded by thousands of unfamiliar faces and being hundreds of miles from home, I did not feel at home at Central Michigan University. I missed my friends, family, and the comfort of a support system.
As I went into my sophomore year at CMU, I promised myself that I would get more involved. One of those ways to get involved was by joining Greek Life. At the time, I thought Greek Life was similar to the student council that I was a part of in High School. While Greek Life offers opportunities for leadership, development, and philanthropic efforts, I found Greek Life is still very different than student council because It connects you with a large group of fraternities and sororities.
Going through Fall Recruitment was a different experience for me. Although I met such kind, passionate women, I was afraid I would never find my place in the Greek community. However, Alpha Chi Omega shined bright in my head. The women I talked to were all of the things I was looking for in a sorority. They were friendly, excited, and all so different. Alpha Chi Omega’s tent made me feel comfortable and most importantly accepted. My conversations about domestic violence awareness and the sisterhood within Alpha Chi Omega made me excited to a part of the Greek community.
My decision to Go Greek and find Alpha Chi Omega has been unforgettable. I have met my forever friends, found leadership positions, a love for philanthropy, and grew in my community at CMU. Central Michigan University has become my home and I know college will be the best four years of my life because of Greek Life and Alpha Chi Omega. - Alyssa Kruizenga
